Context

UNFPA Somalia is supporting the census activities to improve demographic data availability for policy and planning. To enhance real-time monitoring, spatial analysis, and communication of data insights, UNFPA Somalia is engaging online volunteers with technical expertise in key data areas.

Task description

• Work with the UNFPA and the Somali National Bureau of Statistics (SNBS) to create Pre-Enumeration Areas (Pre-EA) in 5 districts in Somalia using building footprints and recent satellite image and the World-Pops QGIS Pre-EA tool. • Implement geo-fencing to control, manage and monitor enumerators to ensure complete coverage of the Enumeration Areas and avoid overlaps. • Geographically visualize census-related data using GIS tools like ArcGIS and QGIS. Assist in creating static and interactive maps, support spatial analysis, and provide layered views to inform planning and operations.

Experiences and Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or ongoing studies in a relevant field. Required Skills and Experience: - Relevant experience aligned with the role’s responsibilities. - Proficiency in necessary tools (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS and SQL, Power BI, data editing). - Experience in online collaboration and development context is an asset.

Languages

English, Level: Fluent, Required Somali, Level: Native language, Desirable
